A Photo-Sharing Privacy Checklist
A photograph can reveal more than its subject. Pause before posting and review the image, its caption and the audience as one decision.

Inspect the whole frame
Look beyond the person in the foreground. A parcel label, name badge, document, vehicle plate or reflection may reveal information you did not intend to share. Check the edges and mirrors as carefully as the centre. When something private appears, choose a different photograph or remove that detail before posting. Do not assume viewers will overlook small text just because it is hard to read on your phone.
Treat location as a separate choice
A visible landmark, caption or sequence of posts can suggest where you are even without an explicit location tag. Decide whether sharing a place is useful and whether sharing it immediately is necessary. You can describe an experience after leaving rather than narrating every movement live. If location metadata matters to you, inspect the file and the sharing settings; do not assume every service handles that information in the same way.
Ask the people who appear
Agreement to take a photograph does not automatically mean agreement to publish it. Ask before posting a recognisable image of someone else, especially when the context is personal. Be clear about where the picture will appear and whether you plan to tag them. If a person changes their mind, respond promptly. A group photograph is not more important than somebody’s reasonable wish to stay out of public view.
Review the destination as well as the image
Check the intended audience and the account receiving the upload. A private audience setting is useful, but it cannot promise that nobody will copy or redistribute a picture. Avoid sharing anything whose wider circulation would create a problem you are unwilling to accept. If you spot an unwanted post, use the platform’s reporting and removal tools and ask the publisher to take it down. Privacy is a series of deliberate choices, not a guarantee created by one toggle.
